Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell was mistaken for the 21-year-old daughter of Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone at the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix today.

Geri, who claims to be 36, but is thought to be closer to 40, was spotted tottering through the Red Bull Energy Station at the Monte Carlo Circuit when BBC sports commentator Martin Brundle mistook her for Petra Ecclestone.

While it was a definite compliment for Geri to be compared with the youngest Ecclestone daughter, what Petra made of the gaffe is unknown.

But she's got her father's business acumen - with a successful career as a fashion designer under her belt.

Geri, who now writes children’s books, sported a horse shoe print mini-dress with bare legs and sky scraper-heeled sandals.

The former singer paused to tell reporters: ‘I love fast cars. I’m a bit of a speed freak. I’m really proud of Jenson Button – he’s had a bit of a journey.’

Other celebs at the race included singer Cliff Richard as well as Princess Beatrice, who was accompanied by her boyfriend Dave Clark.

Socialite Peaches Geldof and good-time guy James Blunt both arrived fresh from the Cannes Film Festival for yet another jolly.
