Sometimes on the weekends when I don't have a babysitter, I rent movies On Demand and watch them by myself. I actually like watching movies by myself, though, so it's not a big deal. Well, wait--I don't like to watch scary movies by myself. Last weekend I watched Changeling starring Angelina Jolie. She plays Christine Collins, a single mom to a little boy. He gets kidnapped. Yeah, definitely should have watched this with someone.
Afterward, I got out of my bed and locked all the windows. I was pretty sure someone was going to steal JD. I was certain. I didn't really sleep that night. I kept waking up and looking into his crib. I ate some grapes at 3 A.M. I also kept the hall light on. Because wasting electricity was a sure way to ward off a potential kidnapper.
However, this was an excellent film. It made me cry and hope, and it made me angry and scared--it made me uncomfortable, to the point where I had butterflies in my stomach, but in a panic attack way, not in a falling in love way. If you're thinking of staying in this weekend, I suggest Changeling. I don't suggest single moms named Christine with a son watch it alone, though. But I'm admittedly a wuss. Back in the '90s (the '90s! ha!) when Fire in the Sky came out, I slept in my parents' bed because I was certain I was going to get abducted and an alien was going to stick a needle in my eyeball. And return me three days later, naked at a gas station's bathroom, where I would drink water from a dirty sink. Just saying.
What movie freaks you out? Why?
